Amir Khan's gym helps crime levels drop in Bolton

Khan plays role in Bolton crime drop

British boxer Amir Khan has revealed that his gym has helped lower the crime rate in Bolton.

The local fighter introduced his Gloves gym to the area in 2008 in a bid to get young people off the streets.

"Parents and schoolteachers come to me and thank me for opening the gym," Khan told the Daily Star. "Kids are behaving better in school.

"Because the gym was doing so well, the crime rate around this area dropped. Even the police come and do training sessions here."

The gym, which welcomes around 500 youngsters a week charging £1 a session, also has an office installed for kids to do their homework.
