Gascoigne pleads not guilty over 'racist joke'

England football legend Paul Gascoigne pleaded not guilty to a racially aggravated offence at Dudley Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

The 49-year-old has been accused of making a derogatory comment about a black security guard during one of his 'An Evening with Gazza' shows in Wolverhampton in November.

Police received a complaint about Gascoigne's conduct and later charged him over allegations that he used abusive or insulting words and caused racially aggravated harassment and alarm.

The retired footballer, who has battled alcoholism for many years, will stand trial on September 19.
