Darts' Wes Newton reveals baby drama

Darts player Wes Newton reveals that he had to deliver his newborn son with instructions over the phone.

Darts player Wes Newton has revealed that he had to deliver his newborn son last month.

The 36-year-old, who is through to the last 16 at the PDC World Championship, had to take instructions from the hospital over the phone when his wife, Stacey, went into labour four weeks ago.

The 'Warrior' told The Mirror: "I came home late on the Sunday night, and in the early hours of Monday Stacey went into labour. It all happened so fast, within four minutes of her waters breaking, the baby was born at home. There was no time for any ambulance to get there, no chance of getting to hospital.

"We phoned through to say the waters had broken and they said, 'Right, come down', but my next words were, 'I can see the head coming out! 'They said, 'OK, you're not going to have time for an ambulance, stay on the line and we'll talk you through it'.

"If something goes wrong, you obviously want trained professionals around, and when Zac was delivered, the umbilical cord was wrapped round his neck and we had to sort it out. Everything worked out well, mother and baby were fine, everyone is safe and it will be a great story to tell Zac when he gets older."

Newton beat John Part to progress in the tournament.
