Tom Daley's mother unconcerned by 20-year age gap between diver and fiance

Daley's mother unconcerned by age gap

Tom Daley's mother Debbie has claimed that she has no issues with her son being engaged to a man 20 years his senior.

The British Olympic diver, 21, announced his engagement to American Oscar-winning director Dustin Lance Black via The Times newspaper on Thursday.

The couple went public with their romance shortly after Daley revealed via a YouTube video in December 2013 that he was in a same-sex relationship.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Debbie said: "There is an age gap, 20 years, but then again age is but a number. Everyone gets on really with him, even though he is American, but there we go. I am not sad because in losing Tom I am gaining another, so it makes everything all good."

Daley's mother also confirmed to the Plymouth Herald that the couple will not set a wedding date until after the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, where the diver will be fighting for gold.
