NBA star Jason Collins's ex-fiancee: 'I never knew he was gay'

The ex-fiancee of NBA star Jason Collins has admitted that she was completely unaware that he was gay.

The 34-year-old Washington Wizards player revealed his sexuality this week but Carolyn Moos, who dated Collins for eight years, was in the dark.

"It's very emotional for me as a woman to have invested eight years in my dream to have a husband, soul mate, and best friend in him," Moos told TMZ. "So this is all hard to understand."

"I care about [Jason] tremendously and only want the best for him. I want Jason to be happy for a lifetime and stay true to who he really is, inside and out."

The pair were engaged but Collins called off the wedding, which resulted in their split in 2009.
