Bastian Schweinsteiger avoided song initiation at Manchester United

Bastian Schweinsteiger reveals that he avoided having to sing a song as part of his Manchester United initiation as he offered to take the players to Oktoberfest instead.

Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has revealed that he avoided having to sing as part of his initiation when he moved to Old Trafford last month.

Traditionally, new players have to deliver a tune in front of their teammates after joining a new club, but the German World Cup winner escaped the embarrassment.

Instead, the former Bayern Munich star offered to take captain Wayne Rooney and the rest of the team to Germany for annual beer festival Oktoberfest.

When asked by Sky Sports News if he had to sing, Schweinsteiger said: "No, I spoke with Wayne about it and said maybe it's better for the young players to sing. I'm 31 so I'll invite you guys to Oktoberfest in Munich and he was happy about that."

Schweinsteiger made his Premier League debut in last weekend's 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
