Manchester United's Wayne Rooney 'gets online death threats following derby defeat'

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney reportedly became the victim of death threats following his side's derby defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

The England international managed to find the net during the clash, but it was only a consolation goal as it ended 4-1 to City at the Etihad Stadium.

It has been claimed that after the match Rooney, his wife Coleen and sons Kai and Klay were targeted by angry fans on Twitter.

According to the Daily Star, one user wrote: "@WayneRooney hope something tragic happens to you, your missus and the kid."

The 27-year-old is expected to feature in tonight's Capital One Cup tie against Liverpool at Old Trafford.
