Mason Greenwood will reportedly find out 'in a matter of days' whether he will face rape charges.
Earlier this year, the Manchester United and England forward was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault following accusations from a woman.
Greenwood was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill, and he was quickly suspended by his Premier League club until further notice.
Police are allegedly preparing to submit a report to the Crown Prosecution Service, and a decision on possible charges will be made soon after.
"He's still on bail but things are at an advanced stage. The police and CPS are currently discussing if there is a case or not to bring against him," The Sun quotes a source as saying.
"There comes a point where a decision has to be made and things have reached that point."
Greenwood, who remains on bail, has scored six times and registered two assists in 24 appearances in all competitions for Man United during the 2021-22 campaign.
The forward's last outing for the Red Devils came against West Ham United on January 22.
