Former Liverpool defender Rigobert Song is reportedly in critical condition in hospital after suffering a stroke.

The 40-year-old, who is currently the manager of national team Chad, is believed to be fighting for his life in Yaounde after suffering a brain aneurysm, according to The Guardian.

Song made 35 appearances for Liverpool after he was bought by Gerard Houllier for £2.7m in 1999, and his final club in England was West Ham United, where he spent two years of his career.

Plenty of figures in the football world, including Liverpool and West Ham, have given messages of support to Song on social media.

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure tweeted: "My thoughts and prayers are with Rigobert Song and his family at this difficult time."

Rigobert is the uncle of former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder Alex Song.
