Spectators miss start of athletics at Hampden Park

Glasgow 2014 travel chiefs say that they will 'work hard' to ensure that issues experienced by Commonwealth Games spectators today will not be repeated.

Hundreds of spectators missed the start of the athletics at the Commonwealth Games today after being left to wait for shuttle buses.

The event at Hampden Park was expected to attract 44,000 fans, but many complained of problems getting to the venue.

"Today is the busiest day of the Games with more than 180,000 attending ticketed sports events," Glasgow 2014 director of transport Michael Renshaw told BBC Sport. "We are working hard to ensure this service gets people to and from venues as smoothly as possible."

Glasgow 2014 travel chiefs later issued an apology for delays, announcing that extra buses would be laid on for future events.
