'Coronation Street' actor to raise money for ex-England player Jimmy Greaves

Coronation Street actor Bruce Jones promises to help raise money for Jimmy Greaves following the ex-England footballer's stroke.

Coronation Street actor Bruce Jones has vowed to help raise money for stricken ex-England footballer Jimmy Greaves.

The 75-year-old's agent Terry Baker is hoping to gather £30,000 to pay for the former sportsman's intensive physiotherapy.

Greaves requires the treatment after suffering a severe stroke in May.

So far, fans have helped raise more than £11,000, but Bruce, who has confirmed that he will host a pub fundraiser for Greaves, believes that some of the country's football clubs should get involved.

"I got a call from a mate who runs a pub to get involved and help Jimmy and I said yes straight away," Bruce told the Daily Star.

"He's a legend what he's done for this country, Jimmy. I'm stunned some of the clubs he's played for haven't come forward to give him some cash."

Greaves played for Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United during his career.
