Cincinnati Bengals promise fans 'less Katy Perry'

Cincinnati Bengals promise fans 'less Katy Perry'

Cincinnati Bengals have reassured supporters that Katy Perry's chart-topping hit "Roar" will be played less frequently at Paul Brown Stadium in future.

The track, which was selected for obvious tiger-related reasons, was played before, during and after the Bengals' 20-10 win over Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday.

A social media backlash then followed, with offended supporters claiming that the song is unsuitable for an American football arena.

The negative reaction has forced director of sales and public affairs Jeff Berding to promise that there will be a different playlist at the Bengals' next home game.

"I think some fans proved that there's an expectation that when the team takes the field, there should be more of a hard-rock, classic-rock song and I know that's what we're going to do," said Berding.

"Katy Perry is not going to be the last song you hear before the team takes the field."

Perry's popular sounds are far from what America's sporting public are used to hearing on a game day.

Fans of the USA's favourite sport are generally more at home with the likes of "You're Going Down" by Sick Puppies and Metallica's "Whiplash".
