Jose Mourinho 'put in jail before 2007 FA Cup final over dog dispute with police'

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho reveals that he was briefly put in jail prior to the 2007 FA Cup final after refusing to let the police take his dog away.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that back in 2007 he was briefly put behind bars for refusing to allow police to take his dog away.

The incident occurred during the week before the Portuguese coach guided the Blues to a 1-0 win over Manchester United in extra time in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

During an interview with Gary Lineker for BBC documentary The Road to FA Cup Glory, Mourinho recounted how he was taken in by Portuguese police after refusing to allow an officer to take his pet away.

"It's an odd story - the vet thought I was taking the dog from Portugal in a private plane and without the legal situation," Mourinho told Lineker.

"They sent the police to my house to take the dog, but I didn't let them take the dog. So, because they didn't take the dog they took me for obstruction to justice.

"It was a difficult week. I was in that final but my family was not there because they had to stay in Portugal with the dog, for the dog not to go to jail."

This season, Mourinho guided Chelsea to their fifth Premier League title and victory in the Capital One Cup final.
