Leon Clarke's father dies after pub attack

The father of former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Leon Clarke has passed away after being attacked at a pub on New Year's Eve.

Fifty-year-old Darrell Clarke died in hospital on Saturday, two days after he suffered a head injury in the beer garden of The Boat pub in Wednesfield, West Midlands.

According to ITV News, Clarke senior asked staff at the nearby Royal Tiger pub for help shortly after he was attacked at around 10.30pm on December 31.

Police, who have launched a murder investigation, arrested a 22-year-old man at the weekend in connection with the incident and have since released him on bail.

Leon currently plays for League One side Bury.
