A Burnley fan has been offered an interview from Blackburn Rovers over the managerial vacancy after sending in a joke application.

James McDonagh claimed that he would lead the Championship outfit, who sacked Michael Appleton after 67 days in charge, to "back-to-back relegation".

Following his application the customer services manager received a response from Blackburn's Indian owners Venky's via global adviser Shebby Singh inviting him for an interview.

"They're a bit of a joke club at the minute and I thought I could probably do better than their last few appointments," McDonagh told The Sun.

"I wasn't expecting to get shortlisted but Blackburn's owners are known for their barmy decisions."

McDonagh wrote on his CV that he previously coached a Sunday league side and regularly plays computer game Football Manager.
