British judoka Fletcher suffers golden score defeat

Ben Fletcher's hopes of landing a European Games medal have come to an end following a round-of-16 defeat to Henk Grol in Baku.

The double British champion successfully navigated his way past Malta's Isaac Bezzina in the first round, but he lost out by a waza-ari at the next stage.

With the scores locked at the end of the five-minute bout, the Netherlands' Grol managed to secure a golden score win to advance through to the quarter-finals of the men's -100kg.

Fellow Great Britain hopeful Sarah Adlington also exited the competition early on this morning, while Gemma Gibbons still retains hopes of matching her London 2012 medal success.
