2015 European Judo Championships withdrawn from Glasgow

The 2015 European Judo Championships are withdrawn from hosts Glasgow due to a dispute between the British Judo Association and the European Judo Union.

The European Judo Championships have been withdrawn from hosts Glasgow just eight weeks before the event begins.

The decision has been made following a dispute between the British Judo Association and the European Judo Union with regards to the former's commercial partnership with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

BJA chief executive Andrew Scoular said in a statement: "Following discussions with the EJU we had cancelled the agreement with UFC to ensure we could still host the Championships.

"We are extremely disappointed to have had the European Judo Championships taken away from us in this way and for this reason, and so following the communication with the EJU on Friday evening we have asked to meet in the hope the decision can be reversed to allow us to still deliver the event as planned."

The EJU have also claimed that the BJA breached their contract by failing to meet the deadline to pay the license fee.
