USA put five past Slovenia

The United States men's hockey team have recorded a comprehensive 5-1 victory against Slovenia at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Phil Kessel opened the scoring after just over a minute of the match played, and the Toronto Maple Leafs forward doubled his tally just a few minutes later when he fired the puck past Luka Gracnar.

By the end of the second period, the United States were 4-0 up, thanks to a third goal from Kessel and a strike from Ryan McDonagh.

The scoreline became more emphatic when David Backes made it five in the third period.

Marcel Rodman of Slovenia netted a consolation for his team with just 18 seconds left, pouncing on a mistake from the Team USA backline.
