Belfast Giants to request review over Kevin Phillips' "vicious hit to the head"

Belfast Giants plan to request a disciplinary review after Kevin Phillips suffered a "vicious hit to the head" during his side's Challenge Cup win over Edinburgh Capitals.

Belfast Giants coach Steve Thornton has confirmed that the team will request a disciplinary review after defenceman Kevin Phillips suffered a blow to the head during their Challenge Cup clash against the Edinburgh Capitals.

Phillips was forced out of the game after just one minute, but his teammates were able to earn their second win in three nights by securing a 2-1 victory last night.

"With three games in three nights and every game being the home opener for our opponents it was tough, but it turned out to be a really good weekend," the Belfast Telegraph quotes Thornton as saying.

"Kevin Phillips had to come off after a vicious hit to the head and I will be asking for the video to be looked at."

Kevin Saurette scored both goals for the Giants while playing in his 100th game for the team.
