Team GB 1-2 Argentina

Team GB crash out of the women's hockey after a 2-1 loss at the hands of Argentina.

Argentina have progressed to the final of the Olympic women's hockey by beating Team GB 2-1 this evening.

The hosts were dealt a blow after only five minutes when Argentina were awarded a penalty corner and Joel Barrionuevo converted the set-piece powerfully to give the South Americans an early lead.

Luciana Aymar could have extended Argentina's advantage midway through the first half but her effort was blocked well as Team GB continued to withstand pressure from their opponents.

Despite not being able to create chances and force a goal of their own, the Brits looked to have limit the damage from the first period until Argentina improved their lead just four minutes before the interval.

Carla Rebecchi attacked at pace on the left wing before somehow managing to evade a number of British defenders to squeeze her effort past Elizabeth Storry.

Team GB hit back to create a tense finale to the match, however, as Alex Danson cut the Argentines lead in half.

The Brits threw everything forward in the final moments of the match, but couldn't find the all important equaliser as they had to settle for a bronze medal match against New Zealand.
