Ireland lose out to Australia in World League

Ireland suffer a 4-1 defeat to Australia in the last eight of the World League in Antwerp.

Australia have condemned Ireland to a 4-1 defeat at the World League in Antwerp.

Ireland had been hoping to set up a last-four showdown with England as they look to earn a place at the 2016 Olympic Games, but despite impressing during the opening quarter, they were soundly beaten by the top seeds.

Matt Gohdes, Jamie Dwyer, Simon Orchard and Blake Govers all got on the scoresheet for Australia, with Shane O'Donoghue grabbing a consolation for Ireland.

Despite the defeat, Ireland can reignite their hopes of a spot in Rio in the playoffs against Pakistan.
