Valtteri Bottas: 'Williams wiser after British Grand Prix'

Williams will be more "clever" with race tactics after letting a lead slip at the British Grand Prix, according to Valtteri Bottas.

Valtteri Bottas has suggested that Williams will be smarter in terms of their race tactics after they let a winning position slip at last month's British Grand Prix.

The Finn, who has been heavily linked with a move to Ferrari in 2016, was trailing Felipe Massa in the early stages at Silverstone, but was not allowed to pass before the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton stormed to victory.

However, Bottas has claimed that Williams will react differently, if they get ahead of the Silver Arrows again.

He told Autosport: "I had the opportunity [to pass Massa] at the beginning when I wasn't allowed to overtake. I think, especially in the first stint, my pace was quite a bit better, as we saw with Felipe's in-lap when I gained nearly one second.

"But it's easy to say afterwards. The team thought that was the best thing to do at that time - to freeze the situation, not for us to battle for positions and to lose any time against Mercedes.

"Should have, could have, we can always say it could have been better, but in the end it was a weekend when as a team we learned quite a lot in terms of wet performance, strategy calls. For sure, we are going to be clever now in the future with what we do."

Bottas finished fourth in last season's drivers' standings.
