F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone helps Caterham's return for final race in Abu Dhabi

F1 boss Bernie Eccleston supports Caterham by covering various costs so that the financially-stricken team can travel to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend.

Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has given Caterham a helping hand as they prepare to return to the grid for the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

The team missed the last two grands prix in Texas and Brazil after going into administration in October.

After raising money via crowdfunding to ensure their place at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Ecclestone has chartered a plane for staff and covered freight costs.

"They wanted to go, so we've transported them at no cost to them," BBC Sport quotes Ecclestone as saying. "We've at least helped them to some degree, something we need not have done.

"We've even chartered another plane to take them. We've gone a little bit over the top, but anyway, we've done it."

More than 200 staff have been made redundant at Caterham's Leafield factory in Oxfordshire.
