Preview: Yeovil Town vs. Sheffield Wednesday

Sports Mole looks ahead to Saturday's Championship clash between relegation-threatened Yeovil Town and Sheffield Wednesday at Huish Park.

Yeovil Town could move out of the Championship relegation zone with a victory over Sheffield Wednesday at Huish Park this Saturday.

The Glovers have stopped the rot and experienced a mini-revival recently, going four matches without defeat to climb within two points of safety with a game in hand over 21st-placed Millwall.

Three of those four games have ended all square, although their last outing was an impressive one as they held playoff-chasing Reading to a valiant draw despite being reduced to eight men.

With Charlton Athletic not in action and Millwall facing a tricky away match against Derby County, Gary Johnson will be eyeing Saturday's match as a very real chance to climb out of the bottom three.

Any reprieve could well be temporary as Charlton still have the luxury of two games in hand over Yeovil, but a victory for the Glovers would pile the pressure on the other teams around them at least.

Johnson's side are unbeaten in their last three games at home, although their 1-0 win over Doncaster Rovers in their last outing at Huish Park was just their third win in front of their own fans all season.

Indeed, no side has picked up fewer points at home than Yeovil this season, managing just 13 from their 16 games, while their 11 goals scored is also the lowest tally in the division.

The hosts will be without the suspended duo of Kieffer Moore and Joe Ralls following their red cards against Reading, although captain Byron Webster has had his dismissal rescinded so should start.

It wasn't too long ago that Wednesday were in a similarly perilous position to Yeovil, but they now find themselves sitting pretty in 15th and away from danger.

A brief blip of consecutive defeats to Wigan Athletic and Derby County interrupted a fine run of form that has seen Stuart Gray's side win six and draw four of their last 12 league matches.

They are now a comfortable 12 points clear of the relegation zone and it would take a dramatic collapse and a freak set of results for them to find themselves dragged back into the bottom three.

Wednesday's remarkable turnaround is reflected in their away record this season. Having failed to win any of their first 10 matches on the road in all competitions they are now unbeaten in their last nine.

The Owls also have a game in hand over many of the teams above them, so their leap up the table may not be over yet. They could move above Middlesbrough and into 14th with a win on Saturday.

However, Gray will once again be without long-term absentees Rafael Floro and Anthony Gardner, while Reda Johnson remains a major doubt.
