Tottenham Hotspur reportedly placed a £40m price tag on midfielder Harry Winks, who was approached by both Aston Villa and Everton over the summer.

The 25-year-old, who started just nine times in the Premier League last season, has spent his entire career with Spurs after joining their academy at the age of five.

According to football.london, Villa and the Toffees were both interested in signing Winks this summer, however Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy was unwilling to see the midfielder leave unless his £40m valuation was met.

It is understood that Winks himself had no interest in leaving the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and is keen to fight for his place under new head coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Englishman was not the only Spurs player who Levy refused to let go this summer, after talisman Harry Kane was denied his dream move to Manchester City, who were not prepared to bid in excess of £150m for the striker.

Winks has played 177 times across all competitions for Tottenham since making his senior debut under Mauricio Pochettino in 2014, scoring four goals and providing four assists.
