Graham Potter 'not in running for Tottenham Hotspur job'

Graham Potter is reportedly not in the running to become Tottenham Hotspur's next manager due to his reluctance to work with Daniel Levy.

Tottenham Hotspur will not be appointing Graham Potter as their next manager for the 2023-24 season, according to a report.

The 47-year-old was one victim of the recent spate of managerial departures, being sacked by Chelsea in the wake of their home loss to Aston Villa earlier this month.

Potter's Stamford Bridge exit came just several days after Antonio Conte departed Spurs by mutual consent, with Cristian Stellini taking over as acting head coach.

Stellini is expected to see out the rest of the season in the hotseat as Daniel Levy draws up a list of possible replacements, and Potter was unsurprisingly earmarked as a candidate.

However, Football Insider reports that the Englishman is not in the running to make a swift return to the English capital, having already rejected Spurs' advances in 2021.

Potter was apparently approached by the Lilywhites after the sacking of Jose Mourinho, as the former Brighton & Hove Albion manager was not keen on working under Levy.

With the unpopular Spurs chairman still at the helm in North London, Potter will not consider taking over as he takes a break from management before making a decision on his future this summer.

Leicester City and Southampton are believed to have emerged as the two frontrunners to hire the 47-year-old, who supposedly already rejected the Foxes after Brendan Rodgers's exit by mutual agreement - which occurred just a few hours before he was given the boot by Chelsea.

A separate report from Football Insider claims that Potter would favour the Southampton job if the Saints remain in the Premier League under Ruben Selles, although they remain rooted to the foot of the division at present.

Chelsea hired Frank Lampard to replace Potter until the end of the season, but the Blues legend's first game back in the dugout ended in a 1-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Stellini's picked up his first win as acting head coach for Spurs over Brighton & Hove Albion via a 2-1 scoreline, but both he and Roberto De Zerbi were sent off in a heated affair.

Potter was never believed to have been Spurs' top managerial candidate, though, as the Lilywhites dream of appointing Julian Nagelsmann following his sacking from Bayern Munich.

The 35-year-old will not decide on his next club until the summer either, but all of Chelsea, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are believed to be interested in his services.

The likes of Arne Slot, Luis Enrique, Oliver Glasner, Ange Postecoglou, Thomas Frank and Marco Silva have also been tipped to take over at Spurs, but an audacious reunion with Mauricio Pochettino is not expected to materialise.

Spurs remain fifth in the Premier League table thanks to their win over Brighton, where Son Heung-min became the first Asian player to score 100 Premier League goals, but the Seagulls had two strikes ruled out and a penalty controversially denied on the afternoon.
