Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier hits out at the "crazy" spending of his team's Premier League rivals.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier has hit out at the "crazy" spending of his team's Premier League rivals.

Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool all splashed the cash during the summer transfer window, but Tottenham did not improve their squad ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.

The capital outfit have started the season with three straight wins, however, including a 3-0 victory away to struggling United on Monday night.

Dier has insisted that spending hundreds of millions is rarely the answer, with team spirit more important when it comes to building a successful team.

"When the big teams are doing badly people say they need to spend £200m to £300m – I just think that's crazy," The Mirror quotes Dier as saying. "They are looking at the wrong things if they think they need to spend that sort of money to change.

"It's down to working with the players you've got, getting the best out of them and building something. The culture you create at the training ground, the relationship between players – the atmosphere. There's 50 different factors.

"Of course, I understand one of them is signing players and I understand too there is always something better out there. But for me people use it as an excuse. It's easy to say: 'We'll just spend £100m and everything will be fine'. It's so far from it if you think that just spending money will resolve things."

Tottenham will look to make it four straight Premier League wins when they face Watford on Sunday afternoon.
