Emmanuel Adebayor hails Tottenham Hotspur defence

Emmanuel Adebayor believes that Tottenham Hotspur's defence should take plenty of credit for the team's win at West Ham in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor has paid tribute to the team's defence following Saturday's win over West Ham United.

Spurs snatched a 1-0 victory at Upton Park on the opening day of the Premier League campaign thanks to Eric Dier's late goal.

Having withstood a bombardment from the Hammers in the final third for much of the match, Adebayor believes that Tottenham's backline should take plenty of credit for the result.

"Congratulations to the defenders," he told the club's official website. "It's always important to start the season well and we have done that. Even though we went down to 10 men we still had the belief.

"Defensively we were very solid and we moved the ball well. When we were down to 10 men we had to play as a team and defend as a team and for our confidence this is a very good win."

Spurs return to action on Thursday when they travel to Cyprus to face AEL Limassol in the Europa League.
