Live Commentary: Bayern Munich 3-1 Tottenham Hotspur - as it happened

Bayern Munich 3-1 Tottenham - as it happened

Bayern Munich made it six wins from their six Group B matches courtesy of a 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.

Ryan Sessegnon cancelled out a strike from Kingsley Coman to leave the two teams level at 1-1, but goals from Thomas Muller and Philippe Coutinho handed the home side a comfortable win.

Read how it all unfolded in Sports Mole's minute-by-minute live commentary of the action below.

9.54pmThat is just about it from me tonight, but I shall leave you with the match report from what was a convincing Bayern win. Thanks for joining our coverage once again, see you soon!

9.51pmSo there we have it. The referee brings the second period to a close with Bayern running out 3-1 winners over Tottenham at the Allianz Arena. The German side have won all six of their group matches this term, but Spurs had already qualified in second position.

FULL TIME:

90+4 minBAYERN 3-1 TOTTENHAM

SAVE!

90+3 minA weak attempt from Eriksen fails to threaten Neuer.

90+3 minThiago again looks long towards Gnabry but the pass is just over-cooked. Gazzaniga has possession of the ball and we are heading into the final stages of this contest.

90+2 minWe are into the second of three additional minutes at the end of the 90.

SAVE!

90 minSmart save from the Tottenham goalkeeper to keep out a strike from Coutinho!

89 minThe second half has not been too entertaining to be honest, but Bayern have been in complete control and could surely have raised the tempo if they needed to. Tottenham have been disappointing since playing some nice football in the opening 45 minutes.

87 minBAYERN SUBS! Perisic and Martinez are replaced by Goretzka and Zirkzee.

86 minBayern are utterly dominant at the moment as they continue to move the ball in the final third. Tottenham are chasing shadows as we head into the final stages of this match.

84 minThere is a little bit of movement on the Bayern bench, but it does not appear that Lewandowski will be used this evening, which is really not a surprise.

82 minTOTTENHAM SUB! Wanyama replaces Dier for Tottenham.

82 minYou do get the feeling that there is at least one more goal in this match as Bayern continue to threaten. Tottenham, meanwhile, now have the threat of Son on the break.

80 minMourinho can certainly take some positives from tonight's match, and Tottenham are far from at full strength when considering that the likes of Kane and Alli are absent.

SAVE!

78 min... Neuer has to push Eriksen's free kick wide of the post.

77 minTottenham have a free kick in a dangerous area as Martinez brings Eriksen to the ground. Spurs have the chance to get themselves back into the contest...

75 minPass, pass, pass from Bayern as they continue to work space in the Tottenham midfield. The away side are finding it so difficult to involve themselves in this match at the moment.

73 minLittle over 15 minutes of the second period remaining, and not too much is happening from Tottenham's point of view at the moment as the home side continue to dominate.

71 minSon breaks into a dangerous position for Bayern and threatens to release a shot, but Davies gets back at the attacker to make the challenge. Super from Davies there.

SAVE!

69 minGazzaniga has to keep out a strike from Gnabry as the home side continue to threaten. Tottenham just cannot seem to get out of their own half at the moment.

67 minTottenham are struggling to get hold of the ball at the moment as Bayern continue to move through the lines, and it would not be a surprise to see more goals arrive here.

65 minTOTTENHAM SUBS! Lo Celso and Lucas are replaced by Son and Skipp.

GOAL!

64 minBayern have their third of the night as Coutinho finds space outside the box before curling the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Super finish from the Brazilian!

GOAL!

64 minBAYERN 3-1 TOTTENHAM (COUTINHO)

SAVE!

63 minAnother save from the Tottenham goalkeeper to keep out Coutinho from distance.

61 minTottenham are preparing to make a double change here with both Son and Skipp set to enter the field. The inclusion of Son is perhaps a surprise as he has played a lot of football this term.

SHOT!

59 minCoutinho misses the Tottenham goal with a free kick from distance.

57 minNot too much to report in terms of chances in the last few minutes, but the home side are back on the front foot as they look to find the back of the net for a third time here.

55 minTottenham threaten on the counter for the first time in the second period, but the final pass from Sissoko is disappointing and Neuer can clear his lines once again.

53 minBit of concern for Walker-Peters here as the defender takes a ball in the face, but it does appear that the Englishman will be fine to continue following a spell of treatment.

SAVE!

51 minGazzaniga is on hand to keep out a long-range strike from Coutinho, who had once again worked some space before releasing from distance. Bayern remain on the attack.

CLOSE!

49 minMuller fires wide of the Tottenham post after excellent work from Gnabry, who had settled on the ball in a wide area before picking out the German.

47 min... no changes from either side at the break, which is not too much of a surprise. However, you suspect that both managers will have alterations in mind as the play develops here.

KICKOFF:

46 minTottenham resume the action at the Allianz Arena...

8.58pmBENCH WATCH! Tottenham have highly-rated teenage forward Troy Parrott on their bench tonight, while Wanyama, Son and Skipp are also among those available. Bayern have already been forced into a change with Muller replacing Coman, but the home side still have the likes of Lewandowski and Goretzka available ahead of the second period.

8.53pmSTATISTICS! Bayern dominated the first-half possession with 61%, while they had 14 attempts, four of which were on target. Tottenham managed two attempts on target from four shots, with Sessegnon on the scoresheet for the English side. Just the one yellow card to report in the opening 45 minutes, which came for Kimmich following a body-check on Lo Celso.

8.48pmSo there we have it. The referee brings the first period to a close with Bayern leading Tottenham 2-1. Well, for a match that does not mean too much, it has been excellent in terms of entertainment value. Both managers will have taken something from the first half here.

HALF TIME:

45+3 minBAYERN 2-1 TOTTENHAM

OFF THE BAR!

45+1 minIncredible strike from Coutinho! The Brazil international has just had a shot tipped onto the crossbar by Gazzaniga's fingertips, some goalkeeping there!

GOAL!

45 minBayern regain the lead on the stroke of the interval, and it had been coming. Davies saw his low strike hit the post, but Muller was in the middle of the box to tap home for 2-1!

GOAL!

45 minBAYERN 2-1 TOTTENHAM (MULLER)

43 minJust a reminder that Bayern will finish top of the section whatever happens tonight, while Tottenham will be in second. The draw for the last-16 stage of the competition is on Monday.

41 minSmart defending from Walker-Peters this time to clear ahead of Perisic as the attacker threatened to meet a deep cross. The home side remain on the front foot here.

OFF THE POST!

39 minHuge moment! First, Thiago curls one against the post from inside the Tottenham box, it falls for Gnabry, and the attacker somehow misses form close range. Wow!

38 minLittle over five minutes of the first half remaining, and it must be said that this game has absolutely flown past. Nothing substantial is at stake tonight, but it has been a good contest.

YELLOW CARD!

36 minKimmich (Bayern) is booked for a foul on Lo Celso.

36 minDavies appeared to take one in the face from Walker-Peters, but the defender looks fine to continue. Little under 10 minutes of the first period remaining at the Allianz Arena.

35 minBayern have another problem here with Davies as the defender stays down.

CHANCE!

34 minHuge chance for the away side as Sissoko breaks into the Bayern box, but the France international horribly over-hits his cross towards Sessegnon. Poor!

34 minImportant defending from Kimmich to clear a low Sessegnon cross with Spurs threatening to score a second. Sessegnon has been Tottenham's best player in the first half, but the less said about the performance of Eriksen the better!

32 minWalker-Peters is having a tough night for Tottenham as the home side continue to force the issue in his area of the field. The defender could well have a yellow card coming his way soon.

SHOT!

30 minGnabry sees his strike deflected wide of the post for a corner as the home side continue to threaten a second goal. Muller has immediately picked up the pace here.

29 minBayern look to have a golden chance to regain the lead as Perisic delivers towards Muller, but the attacker is penalised for handball. Little over 15 minutes of the first half remaining here.

CLOSE!

28 minLo Celso just misses the target with an attempt from distance.

27 minBAYERN SUB! Thomas Muller replaces Coman, who was able to limp down the tunnel, which is excellent news when considering that the stretcher was ready to be used.

25 minThe replays show that Coman jarred his knee, and the look on his face said everything. Bayern are going to have to make a change, and that could be another long spell on the sidelines for Coman, which is a real shame when considering his injury problems.

24 minLooks to be a problem for Coman here. The attacker seemed to catch his foot in the turf when attempting to control the ball, and it does not look great for the Frenchman.

CLOSE!

23 minHalf-chance for Bayern, but Perisic heads wide of the post under pressure.

22 minBayern have looked good going forward tonight, but there are obvious problems at the back. Tottenham now look dangerous every time that they break with pace and purpose.

GOAL!

20 minAll square! Tottenham level the scores in the 20th minute as a pass from Lo Celso is deflected into the path of Sessegnon, and the teenager strikes past Neuer from close range! Huge moment for Sessegnon on his first start for the club he joined over the summer.

GOAL!

20 minBAYERN 1-1 TOTTENHAM (SESSEGNON)

20 minBit of possession for Tottenham in the last couple of minutes; Sessegnon finds space down the left before delivering towards Walker-Peters, but Boateng is on hand to clear.

18 minDavies has been very bright for Bayern down the left early on, and Tottenham are just struggling to stem the flow of pressure at the moment as they cannot keep the ball.

16 minNothing from Tottenham going forward at the moment with Lucas finding it difficult to contribute as the lone striker. Eriksen has hardly been on the ball in the first 16 minutes.

GOAL!

14 minBreakthrough! Bayern take the lead in the 14th minute as Coman collects a clever pass from Gnabry before carefully placing the ball into the bottom corner of the net!

GOAL!

14 minBAYERN 1-0 TOTTENHAM (COMAN)

CHANCE!

12 minHuge chance for Bayern to score as Perisic finds Pavard with a brilliant cross, but the defender sees his attempt saved by Gazzaniga before the Tottenham goalkeeper manages to deny Thiago on the rebound. First serious chance for the home side.

10 minThere is not too much of an atmosphere inside the stadium at the moment to be brutally honest. As mentioned, there is not anything substantial to play for in tonight's game.

8 minNot too much to report in terms of chances in the last couple of minutes, but Bayern are still in control of the possession as they look to work space. Gnabry is indeed through the middle as the lone forward, although Perisic and Coman are both high up the field for the hosts.

6 minAgain Gnabry finds himself in a dangerous position in the final third, but the attacker can only find the arms of Gazzaniga from his cross. Lively start to this European tie.

SAVE!

5 minComfortable save for Neuer to keep out a strike from Ryan Sessegnon.

4 minGnabry misses a huge chance from close range, but the offside flag had been raised and therefore it would not have counted. Some miss from the Germany international, though.

4 minHans Flick is already out of his seat issuing introductions as Bayern threaten with the first free kick of the night. Kimmich delivers towards the middle of the box but Alderweireld clears.

2 min... Bayern have made a very bright start to the contest with Tottenham being forced back from the first whistle. The German side have actually lost their last two Bundesliga matches and therefore it is important for them to pick up a positive result in this match.

KICKOFF:

0 minBayern kick things off on home soil...

7.59pmBayern recorded a 7-2 victory in the reverse match in London back in October, but this will be the first clash between the two teams in Germany since the 1983-84 UEFA Cup, where the home side ran out 1-0 winners. Kickoff at the Allianz Arena is just around the corner!

7.58pmTottenham boss Jose Mourinho has made six changes to the side that started against Burnley at the weekend with Kyle Walker-Peters, Juan Foyth, Danny Rose, Giovani Lo Celso, Ryan Sessegnon and Christian Eriksen all coming into the XI. Lucas Moura will seemingly lead the line for the Premier League club, while Sessegnon is handed his full debut in attacking role.

7.57pmBayern's team shows five changes from the side that started the weekend defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach. Javi Martinez, Ivan Perisic, Benjamin Pavard, Serge Gnabry and Philippe Coutinho all come in, with star man Robert Lewandowski among those to drop out. It appears that the hosts will line up in a 4-2-3-1 with Gnabry at the tip of the attack.

7.56pmTEAMS! BAYERN (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Pavard, Martinez, Boateng, Davies; Kimmich, Thiago; Perisic, Coutinho, Coman; Gnabry TOTTENHAM (4-2-3-1): Gazzaniga; Walker-Peters, Foyth, Alderweireld, Rose; Dier, Sissoko; Lo Celso, Eriksen, Sessegnon; Lucas

7.55pmGood evening and welcome to Sports Mole's live text coverage of the Champions League clash between Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur from the Allianz Arena. Both of these sides have already booked their spot in the last-16 stage of the competition, with Bayern certain to finish first and Spurs claiming second position in the section. It should still be a cracking match, though, so be sure to stay tuned for live updates from the European contest!
