Report: Southampton ready to pounce for Ron Vlaar

Southampton are reportedly keen to make a move for free agent Ron Vlaar as they continue their preparation ahead of the new season.

The 30-year-old left Aston Villa at the end of last season after three years in the Midlands, and has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs.

However, The Mirror claims that Saints boss Ronald Koeman is ready to make a firm offer to the Dutchman, following their failure to sign Toby Alderweireld, who completed a move to Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.

Vlaar has previously played under Koeman at Feyenoord.
