Pochettino: 'Lambert eager to score more goals'

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that striker Rickie Lambert is "angry" for not netting from open play in the Premier League this season.

Lambert scored a penalty in the opening-day win against West Bromwich Albion and he has scored twice for England, but Pochettino has insisted that the 31-year-old does not need to be rested.

The 41-year-old told the Daily Star: "After the West Ham game, he was very angry, as any striker would be, as he didn't score a goal and get the win for the team.

"The bread and butter of any striker is to score goals and that hasn't been happening and he is concerned. But he is happy that the team are creating chances and he is on the right path to scoring goals.

"I don't think he is distracted and he doesn't need rest. He is 100% focused on scoring goals."

Lambert scored 15 goals in the Premier League last season.
