The score remains goalless in the first half at Glanford Park, as Scunthorpe United take on Barnsley in the first round of the League Cup.

Both sides started brightly with chances coming at each end, as some neat link-up play between Darius Henderson and Scott Wiseman nearly gave the hosts the lead.

Barnsley had the best chance to break the deadlock, as Josh Scowen burst into the Irons' area only to be brought down by Jack King, with referee Graham Salisbury awarding the visitors a penalty without hesitation.

However, goalkeeper Joe Anyon denied Marley Watkins from the spot by diving to his left and grasping the ball on the line, forcing a corner as he cleared the danger.

The home side had a goal ruled out for offside shortly before the half-time whistle, as Paddy Madden converted Scott Laird's powerfully driven pass in the 41st minute.
