Dobbie hopes for more cup joy against Dundee

The striker was part of a Queen of the South side who beat the Taysiders on the way to the final in 2008.

Queen of the South striker Stephen Dobbie is hoping for more William Hill Scottish Cup joy as he looks ahead to the fourth round tie against Dundee at Dens Park on Saturday.

In his first spell at the Palmerston club, he helped the Doonhamers reach the final for the first time in the club's history in 2008, only to be beaten 3-2 by Rangers after coming back from 2-0 down at the interval.

Dobbie, back at the Championship club at the age of 36, recalled scoring and beating the Taysiders 2-0 in the quarter-final and is hoping for a repeat against a side currently bottom of the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Dobbie, who has scored a  remarkable 32 goals so far this season, told Press Association Sport: "Obviously it was a great run.

"The boys who got to the final all keep in touch with each other and it is great memories.

"We will take it one game at a time but the last time we also played Dundee so hopefully it is an omen.

"Ryan McCann scored from 84 yards against Dundee that day and it was either Aberdeen or Celtic in the draw and Aberdeen won 1-0 at Parkhead.

"The semi-final was unbelievable (4-3) and I remember that we were sitting in the dressing room 2-0 down against Rangers in the final and the manager Gordon Chisholm said, 'just go out an attack them and see what happens'.

"It went 2-2 and we were thinking we were going to win it and obviously big Kris Boyd does what he does best.

"So if we can get anywhere near that it would be a pleasure.

"Dundee will be looking at it and thinking they are playing against a lower league team and if they can win it they can kick-start their bid for survival.

"We are going there thinking it is a free hit and our confidence is high.

"It is about trying to get the first goal and see what we can do."

While hoping for Scottish Cup glory, Dobbie admits helping Queen of the South, who sit fourth in the table, to the Ladbrokes Premiership would be the "icing on the cake".

The man of many clubs, which include Rangers, Hibernian, Swansea, Brighton, Crystal Palace, and Bolton, admitted there has been interest from top-flight clubs but said: "Queens kick-started my career and it got me down south and the rest is history.

"I would love to be in the Premiership with Queen of the South. That would be the icing on the cake of my career if I could help Queens get there.

"There are no expectations for us, it is taking one game at a time and getting the breaks at the right time.

"I have scored 32 and I will see where I can get.

"But it is about where we get to at the end of the season, there is no point scoring 100 goals and you don't get anywhere near the play-offs."
