Former Aston Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov has been offered a coaching role by National League North outfit Nuneaton Town.
The 37-year-old was forced to retire from the sport in 2013 after being diagnosed with leukaemia, but returned to train with the Villans this summer having overcome the disease.
The Bulgarian was not handed a playing contract at Villa Park, but Nuneaton are keen to offer Petrov a deal that would see him join the club as a player-coach.
"We're trying to give him the opportunity to get the coaching hours in and get the experience," Nuneaton boss Kevin Wilson told BBC Coventry and Warwickshire.
"People say he's been in the professional game, but everybody has to learn and take the process that comes. We'll wait and see how it goes, but it's exciting for a football club like ours."
Nuneaton are currently 16th in England's sixth tier with only two wins from their opening 12 league games of the season.
