Henri Lansbury goal seals win for Nottingham Forest

A first-half header from Henri Lansbury gives unbeaten Nottingham Forest a 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship this afternoon.

A first-half goal from Henri Lansbury has given Nottingham Forest a 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship this afternoon.

The home side made a quick start as Liam Palmer sent a through ball in for Stevie May, but Michael Mancienne was back to make the clearance for Forest.

Britt Assombalonga attempted to continue his goalscoring run since joining Stuart Pearce's side, but his drilled effort was tipped over by Kieren Westwood.

The visitors managed to break the deadlock shortly before half time when Lansbury headed in from a Michail Antonio cross.

Atdhe Nuhiu almost set up an equaliser a few minutes later, but Chris Maguire fired wide after picking the ball up from his teammate on the edge of the area.

The Owls pushed to get back on level terms early in the second half, and came close when May was picked out by Nuhiu, but his first touch was poor and allowed Karl Darlow to make the save.

The home side continued to test the keeper when the Forest defenders failed to clear a corner, but Darlow held on to Maguire's powerful finish.

Andy Reid tried to double the Forest's advantage inside the final 20 minutes, but Kieran Lee was on hand to clear the danger.

Jamaal Lascelles came off the bench late on as Pearce sought to put the win beyond doubt, and he came close to adding a second goal on a couple of occasions, but he could not find the target from set pieces.

Nuhiu almost secured a late equaliser for the home side when he curled the ball toward the Forest goal, but Darlow ensured that it went over as the visitors sealed the three points.

The result moves unbeaten Forest four points clear at the top of the Championship table.
