Michael O'Neill pens contract extension with Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill extends his contract through until 2024 after turning down the chance to manage Scotland.

Michael O'Neill has officially put an end to the uncertainty over his future by committing to Northern Ireland until 2024.

The 48-year-old was offered improved terms by the Irish FA last week after turning down the chance to manage the Scotland national side.

O'Neill rejected Scotland to instead remain in charge of Northern Ireland for another four qualifying cycles, as well as the upcoming UEFA Nations League campaign.

A press conference has been called by the Irish FA for Friday afternoon, with the contract awarded to O'Neill - taking him through until 2024 - understood to be the most lucrative in the nation's history.

Scotland offered the former Shamrock Rovers boss similar terms, but he was unwilling to turn his back on Euro 2016 participants Northern Ireland.
