Jerome Valcke: 'Bomb threat was received at FIFA Congress'

FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke confirms reports that an anonymous bomb threat was made at the FIFA Congress in Zurich.

FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke has confirmed reports that an anonymous bomb threat was made at the FIFA Congress in Switzerland.

After two days of controversy surrounding FIFA officials, Sepp Blatter, the current president, and Prince Ali are going head to head in Zurich as they look to be elected for the next four years.

During the morning session of the Congress, Blatter was heckled by a pro-Palestinian protester, before reports emerged that a bomb threat had been received by Zurich police.

Valcke said: "An anonymous threat against the FIFA Congress was received, and FIFA and the local authorities immediately evaluated the situation.

"After consultation, FIFA and the local authorities decided to search the premises during the lunch break. The premises have now been cleared so the Congress can continue."

Blatter is favourite to hold on to his position for a fifth term after reportedly maintaining the support of Africa and Asia.
