Serie A strike lifted

The new Serie A season will begin on Friday after an agreement was reached earlier today to avert further strike action.

The Italian Players' Union and Lega Serie A have signed a document which will last until the end of the current season.

"An agreement was signed today by FIGC president Giancarlo Abete, Lega A president Maurizio Beretta and AIC (Italian Players' Union) president Damiano Tommasi for the new collective bargaining agreement," read a statement from the Italian Football Federation.

"The contract will expire in June 2012."

The campaign will commence when Lazio travel to take on AC Milan on Friday evening.
