Losing start at Sydney FC for Alessandro del Piero

Former Italy international Alessandro del Piero was on the losing team as he made his debut in Australia's A-League.

Sydney FC lost 2-0 to the league's only New Zealand-based team, Wellington Phoenix, on the opening weekend of the season.

Del Piero played for the full 90 minutes in front of a crowd of just over 12,000 fans.

The 37-year-old joined Sydney last month, having left Juventus as a free agent after a 19-year spell at the club.
