Joe Cole opens Lille account

Joe Cole scored his first goal for Lille during yesterday evening's 1-1 draw with Lorient.

The England midfielder, who joined the French champions on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool last month, opened the scoring with a strike from 25 yards.

However, the 29-year-old's goal was cancelled out late in the match by Lorient striker Kevin Monnet-Paquet.

In scoring that goal, Cole has become the first Englishman to find the net in Ligue 1 since Chris Waddle scored for Marseille in 1992.
