Ex-Manchester City and Barcelona striker Sergio Aguero strongly denies reports of a potential return to boyhood club Independiente.

Former Barcelona and Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has rubbished reports linking him with a shock return to Independiente.

The 33-year-old was forced into an early retirement after suffering chest pains in a La Liga clash with Alaves in October, ultimately revealed to be cardiac arrhythmia.

Aguero took the decision to end his playing career in the wake of his health scare, but the Argentine has now hit out at the Independiente board for fuelling speculation of a possible return.

During a Twitch livestream, Aguero said: "I wanna say to the board to stop using me as a political pawn. Do not disturb me, I have no business with it. I haven't spoken with anyone at the club since I left."

Aguero was linked with a return to Independiente in the summer of 2021 before securing a switch to Barcelona, playing just five games for the club and scoring a solitary goal.

The striker rose through the youth ranks at Independiente and made a total of 38 appearances for the club before his move to Atletico Madrid in 2006 - scoring 18 goals at senior level.
