Manchester City chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak suggests that talks of a contract extension for Pep Guardiola will take place on the manager's own timeframe.

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak has stated that contract talks with Pep Guardiola will take place on the manager's timeframe.

Guardiola has spent the last six years in Manchester, and he recently celebrated a fourth Premier League trophy with the club after pipping Liverpool to the post in a thrilling title race.

The 51-year-old's current deal with the Premier League champions is due to expire next summer, and although Guardiola has indicated he would be open to extending his stay at the Etihad Stadium, no extension has yet been agreed.

Speaking to club media about Guardiola's contract, Man City chairman Al-Mubarak suggested that they would wait for the right time to begin talks of an extension.

Al-Mubarak stated: "Pep has never stayed as long as he's stayed (here) with any club, be it Barcelona or Bayern Munich. So, the question is perfectly valid. It is perfectly valid last year and three years ago. And of course this year.

"It is a partnership that has done wonders in years. It is approaching its seventh year and next year is going to be an exciting chapter of his partnership and we're enjoying every moment of it.

"We're achieving great things together and this conversation will be had at the right time, at the right pace, and with the pace, time and framework that works for Pep."

Guardiola has enjoyed a successful period in Manchester, winning four league titles, four League Cups, and a FA Cup trophy in his six years at the Etihad.
