Manuel Pellegrini: 'We underestimated Wigan Athletic'

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini says that his players underestimated Championship side Wigan Athletic in their FA Cup defeat.

Manuel Pellegrini has admitted that his Manchester City players were too relaxed in their FA Cup defeat to Wigan Athletic.

City were beaten 2-1 by the team who upset them in last year's final, and Pellegrini believes that his players were off the pace, describing their first-half performance as their "worst" at the Etihad Stadium this season.

"Maybe we thought that it was not so difficult and when we reacted it was too late," Pellegrini is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

"We gave 55 minutes to Wigan without playing at the pace we needed to play. I think that's maybe the worst half we've had here.

"Now we have to continue playing the Champions League and Premier League. We have a lot of things to fight for until the end of the season."

City play Barcelona in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday and then travel to Hull City in the Premier League on Saturday.
