Paul Glatzel leaves Liverpool for Swindon Town on permanent deal

Swindon Town have signed striker Paul Glatzel from Liverpool on a permanent deal.

The 22-year-old - who was out of contract this summer - leaves the Reds without making a single senior appearance for the club since joining as an Under-9s player.

Glatzel excelled at academy level for Liverpool, winning the 2018-19 FA Youth Cup with a tournament-high eight goals, and he was invited to train with the seniors by Jurgen Klopp later that summer.

However, the striker's progress was then hampered by a serious knee injury, which saw him miss the entire 2019-20 season, and he has failed to graduate from their Under-21s side ever since.

Glatzel spent the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons on loan at Tranmere Rovers, scoring six goals and setting up five more in 22 matches, but a hamstring injury saw him miss the majority of last term.

Since returning to Liverpool, Glatzel scored four goals in six Under-21 matches in the first half of the 2023-24 campaign, and he previously represented England up to Under-17 level before switching to Germany.
