Liverpool 'cannot afford Timo Werner or Kylian Mbappe due to £100m shortfall'

Liverpool could reportedly face a shortfall of up to £100m over the next 12 months, ending their hopes of signing top transfer targets Timo Werner and Kylian Mbappe.

Liverpool are reportedly facing a shortfall of up to £100m over the next 12 months which has scuppered their chances of signing their top transfer targets.

RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner has long been mentioned as the Reds' number one target this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to improve the strength in depth of the forward line at Anfield.

However, recent reports have suggested that Liverpool are unwilling to meet the £51m release clause and have subsequently ended their interest in the Germany international.

Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe has also regularly been linked with a move to Anfield and recently fuelled speculation by praising both the team and manager Klopp.

However, the 21-year-old is regarded as the most valuable player in world football and is significantly beyond the financial reach of Liverpool in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, according to The Mirror.

The Reds could still look to raise funds by selling players this summer, but they could avoid any major incomings due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the long-term impact of the ongoing shutdown.
