Liverpool transfer news: Reds youngster 'closing in' on move to Premier League rivals amid 'advancing' talks

'Advancing in talks' - Liverpool youngster 'closing in' on move to PL rivals

Liverpool forward Harvey Elliott has reportedly captured the interest of Aston Villa on deadline day.

The Villans have made a woeful start to the Premier League campaign, with an unthinkable relegation battle on the minds of some supporters.

Unai Emery's troops suffered their second defeat of the season on Sunday afternoon, when Crystal Palace picked up a deserved 3-0 win in the Second City.

Despite languishing in a lowly 19th spot in the Premier League table, the Villans are preparing for the beginning of their Europa League journey.

Villa's first assignment in the League Phase is an intriguing one, with Serie A outfit Bologna the visitors to Birmingham on September 25.

Liverpool star Elliott heading towards Villa loan?

According to transfer specialist David Ornstein, Liverpool midfielder Elliott is heading towards a switch across Premier League battlelines.

It is understood that struggling Aston Villa are targeting a late swoop for the England Under-21 international on deadline day.

The report claims that the Villans are advancing in talks for the signature of Elliott, who has played at Anfield since the summer of 2019.

It is said Emery's side are pursuing a loan deal with an obligation to purchase the 22-year-old at the end of the current season.

After Elliott has featured regularly in title-winning side over recent years, Liverpool are supposedly looking to pocket £35m from the eventual permanent departure of the Englishman.

Villa's deadline day strategy

Following a concerning start to the Premier League season, Villa are doing everything in their power on deadline day to avoid a relegation dogfight.

The Villans have moved for high-profiles names in the form of Liverpool's Elliott, as well as Manchester United pair Jadon Sancho and Victor Lindelof.

Villa are looking to bolster a first-team squad who will be fighting on both domestic and continental fronts over the next few months.
