Brendan Rodgers hails Steven Gerrard professionalism

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers hails captain Steven Gerrard's professionalism ahead of Saturday's Merseyside derby with Everton.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that he has no fears over the fitness of captain Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard was forced to miss one of England's friendlies during the international break, but after revealing that he expects the 33-year-old to feature against Everton on Saturday, Rodgers praised the professionalism of the Anfield stalwart.

The 40-year-old told reporters: "It's very simple; he's a brilliant professional. He is someone that manages his body really well - he knows that he's got a superb medical team here to support that.

"The training methodology helps him because he's working in different spaces and different exercises on a daily basis. That takes away a lot of impact and physicality.

"He just manages himself really well. He knows his body. Over the last 18 months, you only need to look at his record since we came in - it has been very good. In big part, that is down to him and his professionalism."

Gerrard has made 13 appearances for Liverpool this season.
