Jordan Henderson "not thought about" Liverpool captaincy

Henderson not thinking about Liverpool captaincy

Jordan Henderson has insisted that he is simply focused on helping Liverpool to achieve their aims for the season, rather than being caught up in captaincy talks.

The 24-year-old, who soon recovered from a shaky start to life at Anfield to become a mainstay in the side, is expected to take over the armband from Los Angeles Galaxy-bound Steven Gerrard at the end of the season.

However, Henderson is not willing to look too far ahead into the future, claiming that it is not something he has contemplated at this stage.

"To be honest I haven't thought about it at all because I don't want it to affect what I'm doing for the team," he is quoted as saying by FourFourTwo.

"It's up to the manager next season to choose who he thinks is right to be captain, but my focus is on helping the team to be successful this season, and that means winning trophies, trying to get into the top four and winning as many games as we can. At the end of the season we'll see where we're at."

Henderson also revealed that he is in no rush to discuss terms over a new deal at Liverpool.
