Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Newcastle United

Sports Mole rounds up all of Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

Liverpool will aim to build on their timely Merseyside derby victory when they resume Premier League duties away to Newcastle United on Saturday evening.

Jurgen Klopp's men posted a long-awaited first league win of 2023 against bitter rivals Everton on Monday night, where strikes from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah did the damage in a 2-0 triumph.

The Reds remain mired in mid-table obscurity in ninth place, but with games in hand on Fulham and Brentford - whom they could overtake in favourable circumstances - the European charge is very much still alive.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the clash with the Magpies, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth at the weekend.

Luis Diaz

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: March 15 (vs. Real Madrid)

Having suffered an unfortunate setback in his recovery from a knee problem during the World Cup break, Luis Diaz is not expected to force his way back into contention for at least another month.

Arthur

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: February 18 (vs. Newcastle United)

Arthur has made his return to training from thigh surgery as he finally bids to make his first Premier League appearance for Liverpool, which may very well come at St James' Park, but he will still need to pass a late fitness test.

Ibrahima Konate

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: February 21 (vs. Real Madrid)

Ibrahima Konate picked up a hamstring problem in January's FA Cup defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, which carried a three-week rehabilitation period, so there is a chance that he could make his comeback in next week's Champions League battle with Real Madrid.

Thiago Alcantara

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hip
Possible return date: March 15 (vs. Real Madrid)

Thiago Alcantara was missing from training ahead of the Merseyside derby, and it subsequently emerged that the Spaniard had sustained a moderate hip injury, which will sideline him for a few weeks.

Calvin Ramsay

Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Calvin Ramsay recently underwent surgery on a long-term knee injury, and the Scottish right-back will be unavailable for the remainder of the campaign.
