Jurgen Klopp: 'Liverpool still short on confidence'

Jurgen Klopp admits that Liverpool are suffering from a shortage of confidence after 10-man Rubin Kazan defied the odds to earn a 1-1 draw at Anfield in the Europa League.

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that his Liverpool troops may be suffering from a lack of confidence following their 1-1 Europa League draw with 10-man Rubin Kazan.

The German manager experienced Anfield for the first time as Reds boss, but his side struggled to break down a resolute Kazan, who played with 10 men for 55 minutes after Oleg Kuzmin picked up two first-half bookings.

It was only Klopp's second game in charge since replacing the axed Brendan Rodgers, and the 48-year-old concedes that the team remain short on confidence.

"The team is not full of self-confidence, they lost their grip on the game," he told BT Sport.

"They sat deep and we had to find solutions. Sometimes we found them. We had many shots on goal. I would say 98% is okay, the last two per cent – the decision-making per cent – was not on the pitch.

"The guys tried what they did and we got this very nice goal, but of course we could defend better."

Emre Can scored the first goal of the Klopp era when he cancelled out Marko Devic's 15th-minute opener.

The Reds host Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday.
